Doily magic!

My doily pinnys would have to be one of my favourite pinny styles. They showcase the love of embroidery, the talent of the artist of yesteryear, of lost treasures and a craft that is almost long forgotten.
I have only created a handful of these gorgeous dresses. As I find it harder and harder to uncover beautiful doilies. So I love seeing the ones I have made.
How gorgeous is this, her little one is long grown out of her doily pinny, so it is now beautifully on display, as a doily!
Thank you so much for showing me, I love this idea xx

Think before we buy!

This is for our farm friends!Thinking of all our Aussie farmers who do it tough. And to us the consumers, we need to remember to think local! I am no saint, this is a reminder to me as well, as a struggling family, and when having young children, I have forgotten to check where my food has travelled from, gone by price not heart. I do try to shop locally as much as possible, but not always and this has to change. Supermarkets have changed the way we see food, we now believe we can purchase anything we want, anytime of the year, without even thinking! I should know better having grown up on a dairy farm, seeing my family get beaten down year after year. My family never owned their own farm, always someone else’s, they were hard workers, but never got anywhere. My mum and dad both had to work second jobs to make ends meet. We had to move, many times, I moved 21 times by the time I was 20. Even moving interstate, away from our family and friends, to chase better milk prices! This is going back 35 years now. So imagine how hard it is now!

Eat local, buy local, think local!

Pinny are for always wear!

I love this photo! Pinnys are for fun, adventure, play, make believe, dreaming and yes for looking pretty, but they are for always wear, anytime or place. Not for waiting for that special occasion. The cut of the dress is perfect for outside adventure play but still lovely enough for those many birthday parties. Wear them always, and if they get dirty, oh well you are only young once! Live life, have fun, enjoy!!!!

Fabric fairies.

It’s amazing how the fabric fairies work! Two weeks ago I went to a garage sale up here on my mountain. I don’t normally go to garage sales, I would put that down to laziness but this one advertised linens and a 9am start, now that is better time than those early bird ones! I got there right on nine, but I guess I was the only one with manners! There was at least 100 people already there! I was quite shocked and a little saddened for the people running it, but it was all very organised with colour coded stickers. Thinking I had missed out I was delighted at finding this amazing tea towel, perfect for the upcoming Sustainable Christmas market I was in. I also found loads of plain sheets to use for lining, which I was running out of, and over locker thread which I would have had to order soon too. So I felt very lucky and thankful to those who no longer needed these items. So happy to give new life to hidden or forgotten treasures!

My mothers day.

My Mother’s Day! Lazy morning, long phone call to mum, finished a dress, cuppa made by my youngest, lunch with all my boys, board game with my youngest, finished another dress (above), now about to have some cake and a nice cup of tea then plant some veggies, nice! There is one little person missing but not really he is always here, looking out for us I truly hope you got to enjoy your day xx

A little back story x

I dreamed of a simple life, to live on a beautiful mountain, with my growing family, read books and tend a garden. I was so lucky all my dreams were coming true, life was wonderful, my boys were running around with the chickens in the huge veggie patch, amongst the fruit trees, they had all started school so I was able to get a part time job and we were thinking of doing a few things around our very neglected house, well with three little boys to look after, who has time.

Then a dark cloud came over our wonderful…I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, my body ached, my garden became too big to manage, and our world was changing, life was not so rosy, and just when you think, we can deal with this, the storm grew! Our middle child, our cheeky, sneaky, charming boy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer. Such an aggressive cancer, he started treatment at the beginning of 2012, chemo, then radical surgery which removed his femur and knee, replaced with titanium, then straight back to chemo, for over 10 months we were in hospital, day trips, stays for days, then weeks…Sam endured so much pain and suffering, he was only eight. As soon as treatment finished, the cancer returned, so aggressive, they told us he only had two months…two months to fill a life time of love into, sadly he passed away four days before his ninth birthday xx

While in the hospital I began making felt flowers to give to the people helping us, then started selling them, keeping busy helped me deal with what was happening with Sam. After he left us, my passion grew, I had to keep busy. Creating is the best therapy! I made my first patchwork skirt for a market I was going to, and I was hooked. I have always loved op shopping and recycling items. Making upcycled clothing from hidden treasures is now my passion, I love finding old doilies and seeing the work put into them and giving them new life. Retro prints are magic to me, I love old 70’s sheets and creating with them. I love the colours and prints, the embroidery and vintage crochet. I have also discovered crochet! Oh how relaxing it is to crochet, a craft you can take anywhere, all you need is one hook and some yarn, so simple but so lovely.

Sam is my inspiration, he is my drive and my passion, life has turned a corner we never thought existed, I still suffer from my RA daily, but it is nothing like Sam went through, dream a little is the only good to come out of such pain, it is the rainbow after the storm xx
